Isabey, Jean Baptiste (1767-1855)

French portrait painter. He was employed at Versailles, where he painted the portraits of many of the celebrities of his time. He later painted many leaders of the French Revolution, Napoleon and his court, and finally the Bourbons.

Born in Nancy, he studied under Dumont and Jacques Louis David. Talleyrand made him official painter for the Congress of Vienna 1814.
