Ishi (c. 1860–1916)

Yahi tribesman. The sole survivor of his tribe, he was found barely alive in 1911 and taken to live at the Museum of Anthropology in Berkeley, California. He was the subject of a book by the anthropologist Alfred Kroeber and renowned as the ‘last of the Stone Age people’ in North America.

He was born near Mt Lassen, California.
