Ishim

River in northern Kazakhstan and the southern Russian Federation, a tributary of the Irtysh; length 2,450 km/1,522 mi. The river rises in the hills near Astana and follows a westerly course for some 500 km/310 mi before turning north and flowing through the oblast (region) of North Kazakhstan. It joins the Irtysh east of the Siberian city of Tobolsk. Cities on its course include Astana, Petropavlovsk, and Ishim.
