Stone, I(sidor) F(einstein) (1907–1989)

US journalist and publisher. After serving on the New York Post and The Nation 1933–46, he founded the radical journal, I F Stone's Weekly (later, Biweekly), which he edited until 1971; there and elsewhere he was an early voice of what became the New Left and an early opponent of US policy in Vietnam.

He was born in Philadelphia. A true ‘gadfly’ journalist, he often printed government statements in juxtaposition with contradictory quotes from the same official source.
