Iskra

Unofficial organization within the Russian Social Democratic Workers' Party, set up in 1900 by Vladimir Lenin, Yuly Martov, and Aleksander Potresov for the purpose of uniting the more orthodox Marxist and politically minded party members against reformism. They published a newspaper, Iskra, and endeavoured by all means to gain control of the party's local committees.

Having succeeded in most cases, Iskra organized a Second Congress of the party, but the organization itself split during the congress, the hardline Iskraists forming the Bolshevik faction.
