Isla Vista

Unincorporated community in Santa Barbara County, southwestern California; population (1990) 20,400. Isla Vista is situated on the Santa Barbara Channel of the Pacific Ocean, 13 km/8 mi west of Santa Barbara. It is a residential suburb of the city, and also home to halls of residence (in the Goleta neighbourhood) for students of the University of California at Santa Barbara.
