Island Pond

Village in Brighton township, Essex County, in the far northeast of Vermont; population (1990) 1,200. Island Pond stands on the Pherrins and Clyde rivers, 23 km/14 mi south of the Québec border.

The village is named after an expanse of water at its southern end, which has a 9-hectare/22-acre island in its centre. Island Pond is located in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom, and is home to a divisional headquarters of the Canadian National Railway. It also has furniture and woodworking factories, and produces garden crops, lumber, animal feed, and dairy goods.
