Sanday

One of the Orkney Islands, Scotland; population (2001) 478. Extending for 20 km/12 mi in length, and widening to barely 2 km/1 mi, the island is mostly covered with the blown sand from which its name derives. Agriculture, fishing, and textile production are the chief occupations. Braeswick and Roadside are the main settlements.

Prehistoric remains at Quoyness date from around 2000 BC and include an impressive burial chamber.
