Merchant, Ismail (Noormohamed) (1936–2005)

Indian film producer, known for his stylish collaborations with James Ivory on films including Shakespeare Wallah (1965), The Europeans (1979), Heat and Dust (1983), A Room with a View (1987), Maurice (1987), Howards End (1992), The Remains of the Day (1993), and Surviving Picasso (1996). Many of their most successful films were adaptations of classic novels. In 2000 he directed Cotton Mary.
