Isozaki, Arata (1931– )

Japanese architect. One of Kenzo Tange's team 1954–63, his approach blends Western postmodernism with elements of traditional Japanese architecture. His works include Ochanomizu Square, Tokyo (retaining the existing facades); the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (1984–86); the Team Disney Building (1989–90) near Orlando, Florida; the Sant Jordi Sports Palace (1990) for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics; the Kyoto Concert Hall (1995); and the Volksbank building in Berlin (2000).
