It's a Wonderful Life

Film made in the USA in 1946. It was directed by Frank Capra and based on the story The Greatest Gift by Philip Van Doren Stern (1884–1980). It stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man saved from thoughts of suicide by an apprentice angel who takes him back through his life and shows him the good he has done.

The film was fairly successful when it was first released, but interest in the film, and especially its feel-good message, was revived in 1974 when the film's copyright was not renewed and it entered the public domain, leading to increasing showing on US television.
