The great art collections of Italy are: in Florence, the Uffizi and Pitti galleries; in Rome, the Vatican and the gallery of the Palazzo Borghese; in Venice, the Accademia delle Belle Arti; and in Milan, the Brera and Ambrosiana.

Other galleries of note are the Pinacoteca in Siena and the Museo Nazionale in Naples, with its paintings from Pompeii and Herculaneum.
