Ivan le terrible

Opera by Georges Bizet (libretto by A Leroy and H Trianon, first offered to Charles Gounod and abandoned by him), composed in 1865 and accepted for production by the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris, France, but withdrawn by the composer. The first performance (as a concert) took place at Mühringen (Württemberg, Germany) in 1946. The first stage performance was given in Bordeaux, France, on 12 October 1951. The story tells how the tsar Ivan defeats and assassination attempt and marries Princess Marie.
