Ivanisevic, Goran

    0.02 sec.

Ivanisevic, Goran (1971– )

Croatian tennis player. A tall left-handed player, he is known for his fast serve and sometimes fiery temperament. He won the Wimbledon singles title in 2001. He turned professional in 1988, aged 17, and had broken into the world's top ten by 1990, a year in which he reached five singles finals and three doubles finals. He reached number two in the world in 1992, a position he again held in 1997. His serve-and-volley style is most suited to the grass courts of Wimbledon where he lost three finals, in 1992, 1994, and 1998, before finally claiming the title in 2001 as an unseeded player, defeating Pat Rafter over five sets in what was widely regarded as one of the greatest matches of the modern era.

Ivanisevic set up the Children in Need Foundation in 1995 to support the children of his native Croatia.
