Ivinghoe

Village in Buckinghamshire, England, 14 km/9 mi east of Aylesbury; population (2001) 9,240. Ivinghoe is situated on chalk downland at the northern end of the main ridge of the Chiltern Hills. Ivinghoe Beacon (232 m/761 ft) is a high point situated on the ancient Ridgeway (Icknield Way), which has wide views over the surrounding area. Just below the Chiltern escarpment at Ivinghoe is a large cement works.

The area around Ivinghoe, known as the Ashridge Estate, was acquired by the National Trust in 1926. In the village is a 15th-century church. Ivinghoe Mill, between Ivinghoe and Pitstone, 5 km/3 mi north of Tring, Hertfordshire, is one of the oldest remaining post mills (see windmill) in England. It is preserved as a historic landmark.
