I was warmly welcomed by the diocese, and certainly by the open-minded and open-hearted Inuit of Salluit, Ivujivik and Kangiqsujuaq, where I ministered.
But there have been severe examples of human rights abuses since the very first contact between Inuit and Qallunaat (white people): On July 29, 1611, a battle took place between Inuit and some members of the crew of the English ship, Discovery, at Qikiqtasiit (Digges Island), just offshore from Ivujivik.
The municipalities that the KRG represents are Akulivik, Aupaluk, Inukjuak, Ivujivik, Kangiqsujuaq, Kangirsuk, Kuujjuaq, Kangiqsualujjuaq, Kuujjuaraapik, Umiujaq, Puvirnituq, Quaqtaq, Salluit and Tasiujaq.
