jabiru

Stork found in Central and South America. It is 1.5 m/5 ft tall with white plumage. The head is black and red with a massive, slightly upturned bill. The neck is bare of feathers and can be puffed out, a manoeuvre which is probably used in social rituals. (Species Jabiru mycteria, family Ciconiidae, order Ciconiiformes.)
