Jackson, Chevalier (1865-1958)

US physician. By 1930 he held positions at three medical schools in Philadelphia: the University of Pennsylvania, Temple, and the Women's College of Pennsylvania; he was president of the latter 1935-41. A specialist in laryngology, he devised an instrument that could remove lodged articles from the larynx in 1890. In 1899 he invented a bronchoscope, improving it in 1902 by placing a tiny light on the end of it.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he studied at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, and became a professor there.
