Jackson, Janet Damita Jo (1966– )

US pop singer and performer. The youngest child in the musical Jackson family, she has also achieved success with her solo career and is known for her energetic dance choreography. Her albums include Control (1986), janet (1993), The Velvet Rope (1997), and Damita Jo (2004). She also starred in the film Poetic Justice (1993) with US rapper Tupac Shakur.

Her third album, Control, was her first success, topping the US chart. More hit albums followed, including Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989), Design of a Decade (1995), and All for You (2001). She dueted with her brother Michael Jackson on his 1995 record ‘Scream’. She returned to acting with the film Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps (2000).

Born in Gary, Indiana, she appeared with her brothers in the Jackson 5 at the age of seven. As a child she acted in several US television series, including Good Times (1977–79), Diff'rent Strokes (1981–82), and Fame (1984–85).
