Jackson, William (1730-1803)

English organist and composer. He learnt music as a choirboy at Exeter Cathedral, then studied in London. He became music teacher at Exeter and from 1777 held various appointments at the cathedral there.

operas The Lord of the Manor (1780) and The Metamorphosis (1783); stage piece Lycidas (based on Milton, 1767).

Te Deum, services, anthems and other church music.
