Jackson Five

US pop group popular during the 1970s and 1980s. The group included Michael Jackson and his brothers Jackie (1951– ), Tito (1953– ), Jermaine (1954– ), and Marlon (1957– ). Known for their youth (Michael was just 11 when they signed with Motown in 1969), upbeat lyrics, and tight choreography, the group produced a number of hit singles, including ‘I Want You Back’, ‘ABC’, and ‘I'll Be There’ (all 1970).

The Jackson brothers were born in Gary, Indiana, part of a family of nine children. Their father, Joe, moulded them into a pop group when he discovered their talent for singing and dancing. The group moved from Motown to Epic Records in 1976 and changed their name to The Jacksons. Jermaine remained with Motown as a solo performer and was replaced by the youngest Jackson brother, Randy (1961– ). The Jacksons continued performing through the 1980s, producing disco and R&B hits. Their sister Janet Jackson launched her own solo career in the 1980s. The Jackson Five were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
