Jacobi, Friedrich Heinrich

Jacobi, Friedrich Heinrich (1743–1819)

German philosopher. He studied at Frankfurt and Geneva universities. He was professor of philosophy at Munich University 1805–12. His philosophical work was not original, but consisted of keen criticism of other philosophers' systems. He was largely responsible for drawing attention to the philosophy of Spinoza in his Briefe über die Lehre Spinozas/Letters on Spinoza's Teachings (1785). He also expounded Schelling's philosophy in Von den göttlichen Dingen und ihre Offenbarung/Of Godly Matters and their Revelation (1811). Jacobi was born in Düsseldorf, Germany.
