Jacobs, Marc

    0.02 sec.

Jacobs, Marc (1963– )

US fashion designer. He is known for innovative fashions infused with popular culture. He worked for US designer Perry Ellis 1989–93, where his controversial unstructured designs both inspired and were inspired by the Seattle grunge scene of the early 1990s. He became the artistic director of Louis Vuitton in 1997, incorporating a more trendy and irreverent style into the traditional high-end French luxury goods label.

His own Marc Jacobs label includes menswear, womenswear, shoes, handbags, fragrances, and home furnishings. Marc is his lower-end line.

After graduating from the Parsons School of Design in 1984, he designed retro 1960s clothing under his own label for two years. He became the youngest winner of the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent in 1987.
