Jaeger

Natural fibre clothing design company started up 1883 by London businessman Lewis Tomalin, inspired by the philosophy of Dr Gustav Jaeger, a German professor of zoology who campaigned for the benefit of wearing wool next to the skin. In 1884 Tomalin began manufacturing 100% woollen underwear. In the 1900s he expanded to manufacture cardigans, dressing gowns, and knitted skirts and tops. Since the 1920s Jaeger has become synonymous with quality ready-to-wear clothing in wool and natural fibres, though it now also uses synthetics and blends.
