Jaffe, Monte (1940– )

US baritone. He studied at Curtis and sang at Krefeld, Germany as Wotan, Dr Schön, Reimann's Lear and in Cerha's Baal; he appeared at the Komische Oper Berlin in 1985, in the first performance of Judith by Matthus. He has sung with the New York Metropolitan Opera House in Death in Venice, as Lear for the English National Opera Ensemble and as Bartók's Bluebeard for Scottish Opera. In 1991 he appeared in the English National Opera Ensemble as Timon of Athens in the first performance of the opera by Stephen Oliver. Other roles include the Walküre Wotan at Turin, Barak, Klingsor, Scarpia, and Konchak in Prince Igor.
