Jahn, Otto

    0.03 sec.

Jahn, Otto (1813–1869)

German philologist, archaeologist, and writer on art and music. He studied at Kiel, Leipzig, and Berlin, and became professor at Greifswald and later at Bonn. His numerous writings on music include the first large-scale work written on Mozart (first edition, four volumes, Leipzig, 1856–59; sixth edition, by A A Abert, 1955). He discovered the copy of a sinfonia concertante for four wind instruments and orchestra; this has frequently been given as Mozart's concerto K297b, although many regard the attribution as doubtful.
