Jakobson, Roman Osipovic (1896–1982)

Russian-born American linguist, member of the Prague school. He co-founded the Prague Linguistic Circle, the ‘cradle of the structuralist movement in modern linguistics’, and with the Russian linguist Nikolai Trubetzkoy, produced a structural theory of phonology (the study of language sounds).
