James, Clive Vivian Leopold (1939- )

Australian presenter, chat show host, and author whose British television programmes (taking a humorous look at television around the world) have been often imitated.

His television series include Saturday Night People, Clive James on Television, The Late Clive James, The Late Show with Clive James, Saturday Night Clive, Fame in the 20th Century, and The Clive James Show.

Novels include Brilliant Creatures (1983), The Remake (1987), and The Silver Castle (1996). He has also written three volumes of autobiography, Unreliable Memoirs (1980, 1985, 1990). Non-fiction publications include The Metropolitan Critic (1974), At the Pillars of Hercules (1979), The Crystal Bucket (1981), and Fame (1993).

He was educated at Sydney University and Pembroke College, Cambridge. He was television critic for the British Sunday newspaper The Observer for ten years from 1972.
