Bryce, James (1838–1922)

British Liberal politician, professor of civil law at Oxford University 1870–93. He entered Parliament 1880, holding office under Gladstone and Rosebery. He was author of The American Commonwealth 1888, ambassador to Washington 1907–13, and improved US-Canadian relations. Viscount 1914.
