Caan, James (1940– )

US film actor. Caan played impassioned, violent roles in The Godfather (1972), The Gambler (1974), and Rollerball (1975). He gave an intense performance in Misery (1990).

Born in the Bronx, New York, Caan made his big screen debut in Irma la Douce (1963). He played opposite John Wayne in the Western El Dorado (1967). Among his other films are Thief (1981), For the Boys (1991), A Boy Called Hate (1995), Mickey Blue Eyes (1999), Way of the Gun (2000), and Dogville (2003).
