Coburn, James (1928–2002)

US film actor. A tall, rugged, frequently comic actor, he was popular in the 1960s and 1970s, appearing in films such as John Sturges's The Magnificent Seven (1960) and The Great Escape (1963), and Sam Peckinpah's Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973) and Cross of Iron (1977).

He often appeared in tough-guy roles. Other films include Our Man Flint (1966), A Fistful of Dynamite (1972), and Maverick (1994). He won the 1997 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the drama Affliction (1997).

COBURN BEQUEST: The estate of actor James Coburn has given 11 Tibetan and Nepalese objects to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the museum announced Monday.
The festival will pay tribute to the career of the late James Coburn.
The movie was directed by John Sturges and featured an ensemble cast that starred McQueen alongside James Garner, Richard Attenborough, Charles Bronson and James Coburn.
