Breslin, (James) Jimmy (1930– )

US journalist who began as a sportswriter for the New York Herald Tribune. He wrote for a sequence of New York papers. Also a novelist, he won the 1986 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary.

He was born in the New York City borough of Queens. He evolved into a self-styled ‘street reporter’; his various newspaper columns offering vignettes, character sketches, and commentary, in a scrappy, colloquial style.
