James Francis Edward Stuart (1688–1766)British prince, known as the Old Pretender (for the Jacobites, he was James III). Son of James II, he was born at St James's Palace and after the Glorious Revolution of 1688 was taken to France. He landed in Scotland in 1715 to head a Jacobite rebellion (the Fifteen) but withdrew through lack of support. In his later years he settled in Rome. How to thank TFD for its existence?
