JammuWinter capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India, 130 km/80 mi north of Amritsar; population (2001) 378,400. It stands on the River Tavi, a tributary of the Chenab, and was linked to India's rail system in 1972. It was once a seat of the Rajput dynasty.
