Jamrud

Small town and fort in Pakistan, lying 18 km/11 mi to the west of Peshawar at the entrance of the Khyber Pass. Built in 1823 by the Sikhs, it played an important part in 1878-79 in the war with Afghanistan. A railway line through the Khyber from Jamrud to the frontier of Afghanistan was opened in 1925.
