Jamrud

Small town and fort in Pakistan, lying 18 km/11 mi to the west of Peshawar at the entrance of the Khyber Pass. Built in 1823 by the Sikhs, it played an important part in 1878–79 in the war with Afghanistan. A railway line through the Khyber from Jamrud to the frontier of Afghanistan was opened in 1925.

On the way from Batikot district to Peshawar city of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) of Pakistan on August 24, unknown gunmen men in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency intercepted the passenger vehicle Hashimzada was traveling in and shot him dead.
Peshawar bureau chief for Afghanistan's Shamshad Television, Janullah Hashimzada, was shot dead in the Khyber Pass, near the town of Jamrud in Khyber Agency.
PESHAWAR, August 25, 2009 (Balochistan Times): The NWFP Governor, Owais Ahmed Ghani has strongly condemned the killing of Afghan journalist, Janullah Hashimzada at Jamrud in Khyber Agency and said that the murderers would not be spared and brought to justice.
