Janigro, Antonio (1918-1989)

Italian cellist and conductor. He studied in Milan and with Casals. He made his debut as a cellist in 1934, and as a conductor in 1948. In 1954 he founded I Solisti di Zagreb, and gave frequent performances of Baroque repertory with them until 1967. He also formed a trio with Jean Fournier and Paul Badura-Skoda. He was appointed professor of cello at Düsseldorf Conservatory in 1964, and was conductor of the Saar Radio Orchestra from 1968.
