Janin, Jules-Gabriel

    0.01 sec.

Janin, Jules-Gabriel (1804–1874)

French critic and novelist. He made his reputation by dramatic criticisms in the Journal des débats. His L'Ane mort et la femme guillotinée 1829 was a clever parody of Victor Hugo. This was followed by Barnave 1831, which gives a striking picture of the first French Revolution. A collection of his articles appeared as Histoire de la littérature dramatique en France 1853–58.
