Jannequin, Clément (c. 1485–1558)

French composer. He was possibly a pupil of Josquin des Prés. He may have become a Huguenot in the course of his long life.

Works

Masses on his own songs La Bataille and L'Aveugle Dieu, motet Congregati sunt, Proverbes de Salomon, Psaumes de David (both to French rhymed versions); 280 chansons for four voices, many of which contain imitative and descriptive passages, for example Le chant des oiseaux.
