Jászberény

Town in central Hungary, on the River Zagyva, 50 km/31 mi northwest of Szolnok; population (1993) 29,000. Industries are diverse, and trade includes cereals, wine, and livestock. It was formerly the centre of the nomadic Jazygians, descendants of the Alares who settled here in the 13th century.
