Jeannette| City in Westmoreland County, southwestern Pennsylvania, 35 km/22 mi southeast of Pittsburgh; population (1990) 11,200. It is situated in an agricultural and coalmining region rich in natural gas. |
| Among the many goods manufactured in Jeannette are power generation equipment, turbines and motors, plastics, glass, and lighting fixtures. It is sometimes known as the ‘Glass City’, because of a well-known glassworks built here in 1889 by a group of entrepreneurs that included H S McKee, whose wife it is named after. |
