Jensen, Adolph (1837–1879)

German pianist and composer. He studied under various teachers and visited Russia and Copenhagen, Denmark, where he got to know Niels Gade. He was back at Königsberg 1860–66, taught the piano in Berlin for the next two years, and then lived in Dresden, Graz, and elsewhere for his health.

He was the grandson of the organist and composer Wilhelm Jensen (died 1842).

Opera

Die Erbin von Montfort (1858–65; adapted to a new libretto based on Gozzi's Turandot by Kienzl after his death).

Cantatas

Jephthas Tochter (1864), Der Gang der Jünger nach Emmaus (1865), Donald Caird (Scott, 1875), and Adonisfeier.

Orchestral

concert overture and Geistliches Tonstück for orchestra.

Other

about 25 Op. nos. of piano music and settings of Heyse and Geibel (Spanisches Liederbuch) and Herder.
