Jurassic Park

US film released in 1993 directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the novel of the same name by Michael Crichton. The story tells of an island where dinosaurs have been recreated using genetic engineering, and are organized into a giant theme park. The chaos that ensues when the artificial environment breaks down is the main thrust of the film. The special effects used to recreate the dinosaurs was ground-breaking, paving the way for later films, including the sequel, Jurassic Park: The Lost World (1997), also based on a Crichton novel.

US actor Jeff Goldblum starred as the sceptical Dr Ian Malcolm in both films, with support from Richard Attenborough as the park owner.
