Jerpoint Abbey

One of the best-preserved abbey ruins in Ireland and the most interesting of the early Cistercian houses, near Thomastown, County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. It has the tallest tower of any Cistercian church in Ireland. It is believed to have been founded in 1180, although it could have been founded by the king of Ossory about 20 years earlier. The finely decorated cloister arcade is of particular interest, although of a later date than the church.
