Jerusalem, Siegfried (1940– )

German tenor. He began his career as a bassoonist, but took opera roles at Stuttgart from 1975. His Bayreuth debut was in 1977 and in recent years he has sung there as Lohengrin, Siegmund, Parsifal, and Walther. He performed at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin, 1977–80, and has sung widely in Europe and North America as Max, Florestan, Idomeneo, and Lensky. In March 1986 he sang Parsifal at the London Coliseum and Erik at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. In the 1992 season he appeared as Parsifal at the New York Metropolitan Opera House, and as Siegfried at Bayreuth.
