Jervis, John (1735-1823)

English admiral who secured the blockage of Toulon, France, in 1795 during the Revolutionary Wars, and the defeat of the Spanish fleet off Cape St Vincent in 1797, in which Admiral Nelson played a key part. Jervis was a rigid disciplinarian. KB 1782, Earl 1797.
