Helms, Jesse (1921–2008)

US Republican senator. Born in Monroe, North Carolina, he attended Wingate College and Wake Forest College and served in the US navy 1942–45. He was administrative assistant to US senator Willis Smith 1951–53 and to US senator Alton Lennon in 1953. He was elected to the US Senate in 1972, and re-elected in 1978, 1984, 1990, and 1996.

Abusing a small country of eleven million people because of the threat of a good example belittles America, and allowing Jesse Helms to determine our foreign policy denigrates the USA worldwide.
