Jicarilla Mountains

    0.02 sec.

Jicarilla Mountains

Mountain range in south-central New Mexico, a northern extension of the Sacramento Mountains. Running roughly north–south, they have their highest point at Jicarilla Mountain (2,500 m/8,200 ft).

The Jicarilla Mountains are located in part of Lincoln National Forest. Their name derives from the basketry drinking cups made by the local Apache people, whose Jicarilla Apache Reservation (area 2,920 sq km/1,127 sq mi, population (1990) 2,600) lies further north in the state, extending from just northwest of Santa Fe to the Colorado border.
