keiretsu

Japanese term referring to a network of companies that are intertwined. Keiretsu is a typical organizational structure in Japan and encourages the companies within the network to transact business with each other, thus promoting the interests of the keiretsu as a whole. Notable examples of keiretsu organizations include Mitsubishi and Yamaha. These companies originated from the post-war conglomerates known as zaibatsu.
