Morrison, Jim (1943-1971)

US rock singer and songwriter. With such hit songs as ‘Light My Fire’ (1967) and ‘Hello, I Love You’ (1968), his rock band, The Doors, was one of the most popular bands of the 1960s.

Born in Melbourne, Florida, he wrote poetry and studied film at the University of California: Los Angeles where he met keyboard player Ray Manzerek with whom he formed The Doors, in 1965. A controversial figure who had been arrested on obscenity charges during a live performance, Morrison died of a heart attack in Paris in 1971.
