job title

Title given to an individual in relation to his function especially in organizations that are structured along functional or hierarchical lines. In an insurance underwriting company, for example, job titles may begin at junior underwriter and rise up through section leader, senior underwriter, chief branch underwriter, area underwriter, head of underwriting, and then to the directors responsible for underwriting within the company. In addition, underwriting job titles may be divided between classes of underwriting such as property and liability.
